frequently asked questions
What are gardening gloves used for?
Gardeners wear gardening gloves to protect their most precious gardening tool—their hands. Gardening gloves keep dirt from getting lodged under your nails when you're working in soil and act as a barrier between your skin and the plants around you. If you touch some plants with bare hands, sap could make your fingers sticky; thorns might scratch you; and natural toxins could cause irritation (or worse). Gardening gloves can help gardeners avoid direct contact.
Gardening gloves are also used for minimizing exposure to other outdoor elements like UV rays, wind, and chill. If a gardener is uncomfortable encountering bugs, they can wear gardening gloves to feel less vulnerable.
At higarden, we purposefully design our gardening gloves with these considerations in mind. Our gloves have longer, softer sleeves and a stretchy-snug fit so gardeners can feel more comortable and confident in the garden.
What size should I order?
Have a look at our size guide.
Are your gloves waterproof?
No. higarden mid rise and high rise gloves aren’t waterproof (but neither are the disposable ones most of us use day-to-day). Until we find a water-tight fabric that fits snug and feels good, we recommend wearing our gloves in dry-to-dewy conditions.
If you do palm soggy soil or get caught in a sun shower, remove our gloves to let the quick-dry fabric manage the moisture.
Are your gloves touch-screen compatable?
Yes, one hand can can tap away at your phone while the other floofs a flower.
What are your gardening gloves made of?
Our gloves are ethically made in Indonesia from 12% Lycra® elastane and 88% recycled Supplex® nylon.
Additionally, our gloves with added grips contain 90% silicone. We're working toward a plastic-free product.
How do I clean gardening gloves?
We're glad you asked! A clean glove will last longer and feel better.
Our entire glove line is machine washable. Rinse under faucet for everyday cleaning. We recommend machine-washing to remove ground-in soil. Dry on low heat or line dry.
Can you wear your gloves for non-gardening activities?
Yes. In fact, we regularly wear them to feel more covered and comfortable:
- Taking out garbage cans
- Typing with cold hands
- Cleaning cobwebs and dark corners
- Walking the dog
- Lifting large packages
We've also worn them just because we felt cute.
